Upgraded State Pension website up and running

///Upgraded State Pension website up and running

The Check Your State Pension forecast service has been upgraded and is now accessible online. This enhanced digital service is available on GOV.UK at the following link: Check Your State Pension.

This innovative service is a collaborative effort between HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). It offers a comprehensive, end-to-end digital solution for users.

The online service enables most individuals under the State Pension age to view their pension forecasts and identify any gaps in their National Insurance Contributions (NICs) record. This is particularly useful for those who wish to make voluntary NIC contributions to boost their entitlement to benefits, including the State or New State Pension.

Typically, HMRC allows the payment of voluntary contributions for the previous six tax years, with a deadline of 5 April each year. However, there is currently an opportunity to fill gaps in NICs for the tax years from April 2006 to April 2017, as part of transitional measures for the new State Pension. This deadline has been extended multiple times and now stands at 5 April 2025.

The introduction of HMRC’s online service aims to expedite this process. Due to high demand for information and processing of additional NIC contributions, HMRC helplines have faced significant pressure.

Additionally, HMRC has confirmed that all relevant voluntary NIC payments will be accepted at the rates applicable for the 2022-23 tax year until 5 April 2025.

Regularly checking your State Pension forecast is advisable to optimize your entitlement. Furthermore, consider evaluating other savings or pension plans needed to ensure a long and comfortable retirement.
